Research shows that the first five years of every child's life are the most critical for success in school and beyond. Because vital brain development and profound changes in child's language, social skills and cognitive abilities occur during these years, it is crucial that all children have quality, nurturing, and educational early childhood experiences.

Last year, Quality Care for Children assisted child care programs by:

  • Working intensively with more than 159 child care programs to help them achieve high-quality standards and credentials
  • Delivering more than 19,000 hours of training and providing more than 10,930 on-site consulting sessions to child care programs
  • Distributing more than $488,436.00 in 230 mini-grants to child care programs to support quality improvement efforts
  • Creating more than 4,440 new child care spaces where the supply did not meet the needs of working parents
  • Offering 383 training hours in Spanish
  • Distributing Spanish language child care resources and materials to more than 1,200 Latino child care workers
  • Last year, Quality Care for Children assisted parents by:
  • Assisting more than 13,247 parents in finding and choosing quality child care for 19,476 children
  • Helping child care programs serve nutritious snacks and meals to more than 10,000 children in child care
  • Providing 944 nights/days of emergency child care for 297 children whose families were in crisis
  • Helping 380 parents of children with special needs find appropriate child care
  • Producing and distributing 60,000 child care directories
  • Offering over 90 parenting education hours
  • Quality Care for Children has been addressing child care needs in Metro Atlanta for more than 25 years. Quality Care for Children's leadership in the care and education of young children is widely recognized across the nation. In 2003, QCC was cited as an exemplary program by the Doris Duke Foundation and was a finalist for the Carter Presidential Award for its work in the Hispanic community.
