Starting Home-Based Child Care

QCC can help you start a family child care business by answering your questions, explaining rules and regulations, offering technical assistance and more.

We can help you meet state requirements, market your program through our child care resource and referral services, enroll you in the child care food program to boost your income, and provide you with access to early learning resources. In addition, we can link you to other programs and services that will help you provide the highest quality child care.

To start your own family child care business, you must:
  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Have a high school diploma or your GED
  • Be registered and fingerprinted through the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL). (Call 404-479-4230 or 404-657-5562 for more information)
  • Undergo a criminal record check for you and every person in your home under the age of 18
  • Ensure that no one over the age of 18 in your household has ever been convicted of a crime against children
  • Be certified in infant/ child CPR and complete First Aid Training
  • Complete at least 10 hours of DECAL approved training each year
