Chief Executive Officer

Pam Tatum

Chief Executive Officer

Pam Tatum has been working with Quality Care for Children to improve early care and education in Georgia since 1990. With more than 20 years of social service experience, Pam has successfully demonstrated her ability to design innovative programs that positively impact children at several organizations serving the needs of children. 

Ms. Tatum has served on several early care and education taskforces due to her expertise in the field.  She served on the Georgia 0-5 Legislative Committee, the United Way Early Learning Commission and hosted Mayor Shirley Franklin’s Taskforce on Early Care and Education.

In addition, Pam authored and published numerous early care and education publications and continues to be called on to present her expertise on how to address child care issues at the local and national level. As the third Chief Executive Officer in the history of Quality Care for Children, she works to “seize the largest window of opportunity to support children’s learning to guarantee their success in school and beyond”.  She has a Master’s Degree in Social Work with a specialization in Administration and Planning.

 

Senior Management Team

Pam Runkle

Executive Vice President of Early Care and Learning

Pam Runkle, the Executive Director of the Child Care Resource and Referral of Metro Atlanta, has been working to improve the quality of early education for more than 21 years.   Her years of hands-on experience in early care and education make her one of the top experts on early care and education in Georgia.

Ms. Runkle’s expertise includes family child care and teaching in child care center and school age settings.  She has a broad experience in developing and implementing programs throughout the state.  She has served on several early care and education taskforces and committees due to her broad knowledge of the field such as the Economic Impact Committee initiated by Bright From the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning; the Georgia Association for Young Children Asset Advisory Committee; Get-Ready to Read Advisory Committee; and the ECCS committee.

Ms. Runkle has served as Vice President and is currently the President of the Georgia Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies.  Pam serves on various other committees and has worked for Quality Care for Children for more than 20 years.


Shameyrae Miller

Vice President of Nutrition and Health

Shameyrae Miller joined the staff of Quality Care for Children in 2010 as the Vice President of Nutrition and Health.  Shameyrae has more than 11 years of state level experience in administering federal child nutrition programs, including the Child and Adult Care Food Program, Women, Infants, and Children program, and the National School Lunch Program. She comes to us from Minnesota, where she served as the Director of the Child Care Food Program for a Child Care Resource and Referral organization, much like Quality Care for Children.  Under her leadership, the child care food program grew to serve more than 700 child care providers and 4500 children.

Shameyrae is well regarded for her leadership in the field. She served as the President of the Minnesota Association of Child Care Food Program Sponsors and has just been elected to the board of the National Child Care Food Program Sponsor's Forum.

Shameyrae holds a bachelors degree in Food and Nutrition and a Masters in Public Programs Management. She completed a collaborative leadership fellowship program through the University of Minnesota, one of very few of its kind nationwide.


Theresa Prestwood

Vice President of Development and Marketing

Theresa Prestwood joined Quality Care for Children in 2004 to become the agency’s first full-time development officer.  Theresa has worked in the non-profit arena for 17 years.  She has worked with a number of organizations that focus on children’s issues.  These organizations include The Giving Tree, Childkind, and Prevent Child Abuse Georgia. 

In addition, Theresa has served on the board of directors for the Greater Atlanta Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, serving as President, President Elect, Vice President of Education, Chair of the Interstate Conference and Chair of the Audit Committee. Theresa has also served as a board member for organizations such as Trinity Community Ministries and Georgia Advocacy Organization.

 Theresa graduated from Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts in History.  She received her Master of Divinity from Emory University, Candler School of Theology in Atlanta Georgia.  


Jon Tuuri

Vice President of Finance and Operations

Jonathan Tuuri joined Quality Care for Children in August 2008  Jon has more than 33 years of broad based management experience in the areas of finance, accounting, strategic planning, operations, budgeting, administration, contract administration, personnel, payroll, and insurance. He received his B.S. in Business Administration from The Citadel in Charleston, S.C.

He has held CFO / Controller positions with several Atlanta area private sector companies in the Distribution, Software, Telecommunications and Manufacturing industries.

Jon has been married to his wife Sandy for 23 years and lives in Roswell. They have a son David, who is with the United States Secret Service in Washington, D.C. and a daughter Karin, who resides in the Cabbagetown area of Atlanta with her husband Andrew and 2 1/2 year old daughter, Adia.

Sparks Grove spends MLK Day helping Suburban Nursery

Quality Care for Children welcomed Atlanta-based marketing agency, Sparks Grove and their 30 volunteers to help brighten the school’s outdoor play areas. Sparks Grove is the fifth corporate volunteer group in Quality Care for Children’s Corporate Volunteer Program that launched in March 2011. Quality Care for Children’s outreach program is designed to assist child care centers in improving quality, performing tasks such as: mulching play areas and installing playground equipment.

As tough economic times continue to put a strain on families and the child care services they use in Georgia, a group of concerned citizens led by Quality Care for Children and Georgia First Lady, Sandra Deal, is hoping a major fundraising event in April will bring more money and awareness to what has become an urgent and growing problem this year.

Georgia has long endured the poor educational achievements that result from a failure to invest in high-quality early care and education for children. The economy is taking its toll on a child care system that needs to be thoroughly revamped for the sake of children, families and even the state’s economic future.
